Museums and other cultural institutions acquire and steward artwork related to their missions through purchase funds, donation or, in the case of organizations dedicated to contemporary art, commission. As artwork enters the collection, it is also made available to the public through exhibition and publication. The Patronage section of the present exhibition underlines how particular donors can help shape an institution’s acquisition patterns.

While all of the organizations comprising HVVACC face the collections’ dilemma of inadequate storage space, some are able to continue acquiring artwork within manageable limits. This section highlights selected acquisitions made by HVVACC members between the physical exhibition Linking Collections, Building Connections of 2011 and the online exhibition of 2017.
