Best known as a video art pioneer in the 1960s and '70s, Frank Gillette is also a photographer who uses the camera to enhance his observation of nature and ecological systems. His large format Polaroids in the 1980s consisted of close-ups of compositions created with natural materials. Gillette’s images freeze nature at moments of transformation, reinstating the impact of humanity on the natural order.
