Tina Barney refers to this photograph as one of “the most frightening pictures I’ve ever taken.” Barney’s sister, Jill, is caught mid-sentence, looking beyond the frame. The tense and anxious posture appears against a large television in the background, suggesting the dissolution of her body into the screen. The magenta and yellow dyes have faded over time, which both dates the work and enhances its feeling of apprehension.
